Best places to celebrate New Year in Cornwall
The New Year comes around just once a year and it is therefore important to make sure that your celebrations are special and unforgettable.
No matter whether you are looking for a destination that is family friendly or a place where you and a partner can get caught up in the New Year atmosphere, there are loads of options in Cornwall. Not only does the county boast some beautiful attractions, but it also has some great New Year events that take place every year.
Below we have compiled a list of some of the places in Cornwall that play host to some spectacular New Year celebrations – Happy New Year everyone!
If you have decided to book up any holidays in Looe over the New Year period then you are in luck!
This year there is a fireworks display on the seafront at 6pm for children and after the New Year countdown there is a larger one that starts at midnight for the adults.
That’s not all; Looe is also home to a massive fancy dress party that fills the streets and bars of the town, which is probably why it is regarded as one of the best places to be on New Year’s Eve in the whole of the UK.
If that’s not enough entertainment for your holiday, then go and watch the crazy people that are taking part in the RNLI Charity Swim on East Looe beach at 10am on New Year’s Day.
Widely recognised for its surfing and nightlife, it should come as little surprise that Newquay is one of the best places to see the New Year in.
The Newquay Town Council every year put on a fireworks display at midnight at the Newquay Town Harbour, which is spectacular.
After the fireworks you can join the masses in fancy dress in Newquay’s pubs and clubs, or you and your family can drive back to your nearby holiday homes in Cornwall.
Like Looe, Newquay also holds a New Year’s Day swim in Newquay Harbour. The “Dip for CLIC” event sees hundreds of people turn out to raise money for charity.
Polperro is usually a pretty, quaint and quiet little coastal village, but when New Year’s Eve arrives it transforms into a hive of activity.
There is a village-wide fancy dress New Year party for people to enjoy and when the hand strikes 12 almost everyone in the village meets at the Big Green in the heart of the village to belt out the Happy New Year song with some gusto.
It is the village’s great atmosphere on NYE that, according to Love Polperro, has made Polperro and Looe recently awarded the third best place to celebrate New Year’s Eve in the UK.
Down in the south of Cornwall you and your family can also celebrate a prosperous New Year.
Although there are no specially organised events in the town, everyone that visits St Ives does so in a fancy dress costume.
Pubs and restaurants in St Ives are usually heaving and it is therefore worth booking a meal in advance to save disappointment. Alternatively, just drive you and your family to the pretty coastal resort so they can experience the carnival-like atmosphere themselves.
