Hurling the Silver Ball & St Ives Feast, Cornwall

If you are looking to experience one of the unique Cornish events of the year, then get along to the beautiful seaside town of St. Ives for their annual St Ives Feast and one of Cornwall's oldest customs “Hurling the Silver Ball” on the 6th of February.

The St Ives Feast is an ancient tradition that dates back to 1434 and is celebrated every year on the first Monday after February 3rd. The event begins with the town mayor’s civic procession; this is then followed by the start of the boisterous hurling of the silver ball, where participants attempt to win the ball off each other around the town of St. Ives. The challenge is whoever returns the ball back to the mayor on the steps of St Ives Guildhall at the stroke of midday, will receive a silver coin.

Throughout the day there are many other things to see and do relating to the St Ives Feast around this historic and picturesque fishing village. So if you are taking your Cornwall holidays during this period, you will have a fun packed day of events.
