Killer whales spotted off the coast of Cornwall
Walkers were given an unexpected surprise after killer whales were spotted off the coast between Newquay and Padstow, popular destinations for Cornwall holidays.
Ocean scientist Dom Clarke, 25, believes he saw a mother and a calf near Trevose Head, 5 miles away from Padstow, one of several sightings reported in the last few days.
According to Mr Clarke they then headed south towards Newquay, where a large colony of grey seals resides, a popular food source for the massive creatures.
Killer whales can grow up to 32 feet in length and weigh up to 9 tonnes and are primarily found in spots around Iceland, Norway and Northern Scotland. Experts say the whales were merely passing the coast of Cornwall en route to more northerly waters.
The sighting does back-up what many already believe to be the premier holiday vacation in the UK, with nature walks and the unique wildlife providing family fun for all.
