Looe amongst Cornish towns to get economy boost
Looe, the nearby town to Cornwall caravan park Tencreek is set to receive part of a £400,000 grant, provided to boost the economies of eight Cornish Seaside towns.
Looe will be joined by Newquay, Hayle, Bude, Par, Penzance, St Agnes and Perranporth in receiving money from the Seaside Towns fund which was provided by the government and the Cornwall council.
Only eight towns could be selected from the 18 that had made bids to allow enough money for each successful town. Cornwall Council Cabinet member, Chris Ridgers was keen to point out that the fact some towns lost out was not a reflection of their bids, but in most cases due to the limited funds available.
Looe’s successful bid included plans for seafront enhancement scheme and other towns included visitor centres, harbour regeneration, a skateboard park, improved disabled facilities and even a sea pool in Bude.
The unsuccessful towns will receive advice on alternative funding and support for their planned improvements.
