Museum exhibition in Cornwall to showcase work of Sir Claude Francis Barry
An exhibition showcasing the work of acclaimed painter Sir Claude Francis Barry has been unveiled at a museum in Truro, sparking excitement amongst art lovers across the county.
The Royal Cornwall Museum opened the exhibition on 5 February and it will play host to some of the artist’s best work until 4 June.
Something of an enigma for many, Sir Barry was born in 1883 as the oldest son of an aristocratic, industrial family. He first began training as a realist in Newlyn under the guidance of fellow English painter Alfred East, before moving to St Ives where he was embraced by the artistic establishment.
He is most known for constantly evolving and embracing a range of artistic styles and preferences throughout his life, with the exhibition aiming to map his progress as a brilliant painter.
