Olympic Flame celebrations to be held in Cornwall

Local residents were disappointed after they learnt the Olympic Flame would not be passing through Camborne, Redruth or Pool on its way to London this year, but that has not stopped the community planning their own celebrations to mark the torch’s journey.

Taking place at the brand new, high tech Heartlands complex and the Carn Brea Leisure Centre near Redruth on 18 May, the CPR Torch Festival is to consist of a varied programme of family-friendly cultural and sporting events which will ensure the flame’s stay in Cornwall is never forgotten by those attending.  

A major community event, the Festival is being jointly sponsored by a host of organisations including the local council, the Cornwall Development Company and the World Heritage Site office, as well as local schools and businesses.
