Ship wreck artefacts to go on display in Cornwall next year
Artefacts from a wreck off the beautiful Cornwall coastline are to go on display at a country estate next year after receiving the necessary funding from a lottery grant.
Found on the wreckage of the Danish Brigantine Die Frau Metta Catherina von Flensburg, leather artefacts largely comprising reindeer hides will be on show at the Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park based at Cremyll Torpoint in 2013.
A sum of £41,000 will enable the country house to conserve and display the ship’s goods while the exhibition is planned to include interactive displays, an introductory film and outdoor activities designed for all ages to learn more about the doomed ship.
Chairman of the Metta Catharina Trust and diver Ian Skelton said: “It is wonderful news that after 32 years of diving and research, the story of the Metta Catharina can be told. Mount Edgcumbe is a fitting location for the artefacts to be displayed”.
Should you be staying in one of the wonderful Cornwall caravan park locations next year, be sure to drop by the beautiful country house and take a look at this exciting exhibition. Alternatively, visit this year and enjoy the stunning Cornwall coastline on your British holiday.
