The Eden Project applies to become host of Green Investment Bank

Cornwall’s premier tourist attraction the Eden Project has applied to become the home of a £3 billion Green Investment Bank, it has been revealed.

The news comes as the government looks to step up its pursuit of a suitable host for the bank, which is ‘designed to accelerate private sector investment in the UK’s transition to a green economy’.

More than 100 jobs would be created should the Eden Project succeed in its application, which is relying on established green credentials, low costs and enviable quality of life as its main selling points.

Commentators have observed that the bank should have powers to borrow and issue bonds to institutional investors amongst other abilities, enhancing its importance to the Cornish county, local and national business.
