Calls for Cornwall to introduce free parking for Olympic torch visit

There are calls from traders for the Cornwall Council to introduce free parking when the Olympic torch travels through the county next May.

The council are said to be considering the issue, which was raised by the chairman of the Liskeard Traders’ Association Ian Stevenson at a meeting held by Liskeard traders.

Beginning at Land’s End on 19 May, the Olympic Torch will stop off at various towns and villages throughout the county as part of the traditional pre-tournament ceremony.

The move would be a welcome boost to visitors and locals, who are sure to flock and see the historical journey of the torch on its way to London.

Already a popular tourist destination, the county will be abuzz when Olympic summer begins in May. Why not tie in a vacation to the stunning county with the visit of the torch and enjoy your Cornwall holidays in one of the most momentous years of British history?
